ROI Calculator
Calculate total and annualized return on investment from the amount invested, the amount returned, and the holding period.
Quick guide
Enter how much you invested, how much you got back, and how many years you held the investment. You get the total return on investment and the annualized return, which makes investments held for different periods comparable.
Read the full explanationHow It Works
ROI measures gain relative to cost. Annualized ROI (the compound annual growth rate) makes investments held for different lengths of time comparable.
Formula Used
ROI = (Returned − Invested) ÷ Invested × 100; Annualized = (Returned ÷ Invested)^(1/t) − 1.
Example Calculation
Turning $10,000 into $15,000 over 3 years is a 50% total ROI, or about 14.5% annualized.
Practical Use Cases
- Compare investments held for different periods.
- Evaluate a business or marketing spend.
- Check whether a return beats your target rate.
