Inflation Calculator

See what an amount of money will cost in the future — or what it will be worth — after inflation over a chosen number of years.

Quick guide

Enter an amount, an annual inflation rate, and a number of years. The calculator shows what that amount will cost in the future and what today’s money will still be able to buy, because inflation compounds every year.

How It Works

Inflation compounds just like interest, but against you: each year prices rise on top of last year’s prices, steadily eroding what a fixed amount of money can buy.

Formula Used

Future cost = Amount × (1 + i)^t; purchasing power = Amount ÷ (1 + i)^t.

Example Calculation

At 3% inflation, a $1,000 basket of goods costs about $1,344 in 10 years — and $1,000 held in cash buys only about $744 of today’s goods.

Practical Use Cases

  • Adjust long-term savings goals for rising prices.
  • Understand why investment returns must beat inflation.
  • Compare salary growth against cost of living.
