BMI Calculator
Calculate your body mass index (BMI) from height and weight, see your category, and find the healthy weight range for your height.
Quick guide
Choose metric or imperial units, then enter your height and weight to calculate your body mass index (BMI) and its adult category. You also see the healthy weight range for your height; BMI is a screening estimate and does not measure body fat directly.
Read the full explanationHow It Works
BMI scales weight against height squared to classify underweight, healthy, overweight, and obese ranges for adults. It is a screening tool — it does not measure body fat directly and can misclassify muscular builds.
Formula Used
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². Imperial: BMI = 703 × weight (lb) ÷ height (in)².
Example Calculation
A person 175 cm tall weighing 70 kg has a BMI of 70 ÷ 1.75² ≈ 22.9 — inside the healthy range of 18.5–24.9.
Practical Use Cases
- Screen weight status as a starting point for a health conversation.
- Find the healthy weight range for your height.
- Track changes over time alongside other measures.
