Financial Calculators
Investment Calculator
Project the future value of an investment with an initial amount, monthly contributions, and an expected annual return.
Quick guide
Enter your initial investment, monthly contributions, an expected average annual return, and the number of years to project a future value. The projection assumes a steady return, so treat it as a planning estimate rather than a promise.
Read the full explanationHow It Works
Regular contributions plus compounding are the engine of long-term investing. Returns vary year to year, so projections use a steady average rate as an assumption, not a promise.
Formula Used
FV = P(1 + r/12)^(12t) + c · [((1 + r/12)^(12t) − 1) / (r/12)], compounded monthly.
Example Calculation
$10,000 plus $500 deposited at the end of each month, at an 8% nominal annual return compounded monthly for 30 years, projects to about $854,537, of which $664,537 is growth.
Practical Use Cases
- Set a monthly investing target for a long-term goal.
- Compare conservative vs. optimistic return assumptions.
- Estimate the cost of starting five years later.
