Exponent Calculator
Raise any base to any exponent, including negative and fractional powers, with scientific-notation output for extreme results.
Quick guide
Enter a base and an exponent, including negative or fractional powers. Negative exponents give reciprocals and fractional ones give roots; very large or small results are shown in scientific notation.
Read the full explanationHow It Works
An exponent repeats multiplication of the base. Negative exponents give reciprocals; fractional exponents give roots — x^(1/2) is the square root of x.
Formula Used
xⁿ = x × x × … (n times); x^(−n) = 1 ÷ xⁿ; x^(1/n) = ⁿ√x.
Example Calculation
2^10 = 1,024; 9^0.5 = 3; 5^(−2) = 0.04.
Practical Use Cases
- Evaluate compound growth and decay.
- Work with scientific notation.
- Convert between roots and fractional powers.
